Still standing strong with USF
The University of South Florida has seen an outpouring of support in the face of a proposed $103 million budget cut to the USF system. The Tampa Bay Partnership was among a number of organizations to issue an action alert last week in support of USF’s position. With an annual economic impact of $3.7 billion, the cut to the university system would be detrimental to the livelihood of the Tampa Bay region.
During last week’s committee hearing, it was obvious the pressure of community outreach had gotten to legislators. Senator Arthenia Joyner and Senator Jim Norman stood up for USF and led the way in eliminating a $25 million penalty provision against USF that was written into a budget conforming bill.
This fight is not over. We will need to stay very close to this issue and continue to pressure the Legislature to minimize the impact of budget cuts on USF and our entire State University System.
